When you think about window tinting, you likely picture summer days and the blazing Texas sun. While it’s true that window tint is a must-have for staying cool and protecting your car during Austin’s scorching summers, it’s equally valuable during the colder months. At Dixie Tint Pros, we’ve spent years perfecting our craft and educating our clients about the year-round benefits of window tinting—and winter is no exception. Here’s why auto tint, blackened windows, and window privacy film are winter essentials, especially in Austin, TX.
One of the most overlooked benefits of window tinting in the winter is its ability to retain heat. High-quality options like ceramic window tint act as an insulating layer for your car’s windows, minimizing heat loss. This means your car stays warmer for longer, even when temperatures drop. This functions by preventing heat from entering your car in the summer and preventing heat from escaping in the winter. Luxury car owners and daily commuters alike can enjoy a more comfortable ride without constantly cranking up the heater, which also conserves fuel.
If you’re searching for “auto tint Austin” or “tint near me,” consider the dual-purpose benefits of window tinting for summer cooling and winter heat retention. A visit to Dixie Tint Pros ensures you’ll get professional-grade automobile tinting near me that works year-round.
Winter may bring cooler weather, but harmful UV rays don’t take a seasonal break. Even on cloudy days, UV rays can penetrate your car’s windows, causing damage to your skin and the interior of your vehicle. Tinted glass on car windows acts as a barrier, blocking up to 99% of harmful UV rays. This is especially crucial for luxury vehicles with premium interiors that can fade or crack under prolonged UV exposure. Our products and services at Dixie Tint Pros include advanced ceramic tints that offer superior UV protection.
Winter driving comes with its own set of challenges, including glare from the low-hanging sun and reflective surfaces like wet roads or snow. A professional-grade window tint significantly reduces glare, enhancing visibility and making your winter drives safer. Whether you’re navigating Austin’s busy streets or taking a scenic route through Hill Country, tinted windows drivers can trust can make all the difference.
Shorter days and longer nights in winter make vehicle privacy and security imperative. Blackened windows and window privacy film provide a level of discretion that deters potential theft. With high-quality options available at Dixie Tint Pros, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing your valuables are less visible to prying eyes. Simply search “window tint near me” or “tint shop near me” to find expert services that prioritize your vehicle’s security.
The benefits of window tint extend beyond your car. Many homeowners and businesses in Austin are surprised to learn that window tints for homes and offices can also improve energy efficiency during winter. By reducing the loss of heat through your windows, tinting helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature, lowering energy bills. Whether you’re working from home or running a business, the right window privacy film or ceramic tint can make a noticeable difference.

The darkness of window film is regulated based on the Visible Light Transmission or VLT – the percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of the film and the window. Texas laws contain specific regulations based on the type of vehicle. The requirements for sedans, SUVs and vans are as follows.
- Windshield: 25% VLT tint is allowed above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line or top 5 inches, with less than 25% reflection
- Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 25% of light in
- Back Side Windows: Any level of darkness
- Rear Windows: Any darkness can be used with side outside mirrors, 25% VLT without.

The cost of window tinting can vary depending on the size of your vehicle, the windows you want to tint, and the type of film you choose. Generally, the larger the vehicle and the higher the window counts, the more it will cost. Premium Window Films, like our Nanoflex Premium Ceramic window film, start around $125 per window while our quality cost effective Carbon Terraflex Window Films can be as low as $59 per window. Despite our business being window tints, Dixie Tint Pros is completely transparent when it comes to pricing. You will know your out-the-door cost before you arrive at one of our stores, if you request a quote from us.
The short answer is no, it is not illegal to have window tint on your car’s windows. However, Texas regulates the amount of light that your tint can block. Your vehicle tint must follow Visible Light Transmission or VLT standards established by the state of Texas. Carbon tints are made from sheets of polyester or another laminate materials that include microscopic Carbon particles that, depending on quantity, can provide varying shades from very light to very dark. Ceramic window tint is the highest quality window film on the market and is made from polyester or laminate based sheets. They are available in a variety of shades and colors. The main difference between ceramic tint and carbon tint is that ceramic tint is coated with ceramic particles at the end of the manufacturing process. Ceramic tints blocks visible sunlight, adds privacy, blocks harmful UV rays, glare, and heat.
